HOW TO DEVELOP SELF ESTEEM

Do you think that you are inferior and will not be accepted for what you are? You could be suffering from low self esteem.

How do you boost your self esteem?

1) Love yourself. Put yourself above others. Embrace and honor who you are. Don’t compare apples and oranges. You have your own strengths. Focus on your strengths; take note of your talents; remember your accomplishments.

2) Appreciate your worth and value. Appreciate the people who love you, appreciate the things that you have. Be thankful for all your blessings.

3) Don’t limit yourself. Do you give yourself limiting labels such as “I am too boring, nobody will be interested to talk with me”, etc. Don’t give yourself limiting labels. Don’t put yourself down.

4) Make friends, open up. Nobody is perfect. There are people who like you as you are – simply as yourself.

5) Give time to YOU. Make time to pamper yourself. Give yourself rewards for the little accomplishments you achieve in life.

6) Do affirmations for yourself. Face the mirror everyday and tell yourself, ‘You are beautiful, you are a successful salesman, etc., anything that fits your life objectives’. Visualize yourself in situations where you are happy and successful. Work on achieving your objectives.

7) Get rid of addictions. Have the discipline to improve yourself and get rid of the thing(s) that is/are sabotaging your health, your self image.

8) Accept compliments graciously. Don’t be shy and self-ingratiating. Appreciate yourself, and acknowledge the compliments given to you. If you don’t accept compliments given your way your inner self might believe that you are not the wonderful person that you are.

9) Read self-help books, attend positive-thinking seminars, read biographies of people with great achievements. See movies that are inspiring and give hope.

10) Do you have a role model? In an awkward situation where you are at a loss on how to react, ask yourself, what would your role model do in such a situation, and act it out.

11) Mix with supportive and positive people. Don’t associate with critical people because you could be trying hard to please them and undermine yourself in the process.

12) Forget the past, live in the moment and look forward to a better future. Do you have skeletons in your closet? Is your father in prison, is your brother a terrorist? You are not them. Separate yourself from negative experiences or feelings. Have you shoplifted in the past? Learn from your past and use those
experiences to make better judgments in the future.

13) Acknowledge your needs. Don’t tolerate bullies; don’t tolerate inconveniences that others impose on you. Be assertive. Do things for your own sake.

14) Give love to others. Start with small acts of kindness to people around you. As you make yourself valuable to others your sense of value and self esteem also improves.

Let me share with you a good quotation:

You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself in any direction you choose.
You're on your own.
And you know what you know.
You are the guy who'll decide where to go.
~Dr. Seuss

Act now! Don’t procrastinate. Having the discipline to do the right thing will add to your self esteem.
